Cape Coral, Florida held it's Annual Cardboard Boat Race today (May 19). Sort of like a Soap Box Derby on water for Seniors!
Our boat club, The Merry Mariners, selected an Indiana Jones theme and built a float plane to participate in the race. Seniors have lots of free time. Club members put over 550 hours into the project. Paid off. Bigtime. Three Category Wins, one second (the actual paddle), and one third plus it won the overall "Peoples Choice" award for the event. I got the best deal of all. We were out of town when most of the work was done so didn't do any. But, one of our paddlers couldn't make it, and the backup was injured so I got to do the fun part. We almost won; only one boat beat us; did I mention that there were three boats in our class - and the third one sunk?
Several boats competed for the "most spectacular sinking", a bragging rights only I think. Never heard a winner, but I guess everyone who sunk has bragging rights.
We had a great "Victory" party afterward. Well, we'd have had a great party afterward even if we hadn't won anything. All out boat outings have a fine restaurant as the destination.
