We pulled out of the East Cape RV Park at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. We drove the See Ya past El Viejo, Tia Pablo’s, Las Palmas de Cortez, and Chapito’s up to the highway and headed north. For the second time we maneuvered our rigs through the seventeen kilometer stretch (“camino sinuoso”) that winds through San Antonio and Triunfo. Then it was due north into La Paz for our three night stay at Campestre Marantha.

La Paz has a population of about a half million and is the largest city on the Baja. Hal, Charlene, Sue and I spent much of the day on Friday obtaining our vehicle permits for taking the motorhomes and cars into mainland Mexico and then attempting to make a ferry reservation. As it turned out we had to have the motorhomes with us in order to get tickets, so that would need to wait until Monday morning. We had dinner on the Malecόn, the waterfront road through central La Paz.

Saturday was shopping day at the local Soriana. As we were heading back toward the campground on Saturday afternoon, we spotted some activity in a school near the road. So we drove into the neighborhood, parked and went into the center court of the school where there were a couple hundred people gathered.

What we found appeared to be a major event for the primary school. When we arrived girls from each grade level were being introduced as candidates for – we guessed – princess of the event. This was followed by performances by each of the schools classes. We were surprised at the effort that must have gone into the costuming of the students. The two youngest classes were first. The first group performed to “Pecos Bill.”
On Sunday we attended mass at a rustic little church that we had discovered by accident the day before about a half-mile from the campground. The service was similar to those in Los Barriles except that the homily was replaced by a hand puppet performance by three teenagers the meaning of which eluded us do to the language barrier.
After I listened to a Penn State wrestling match on the internet (at the café on the corner) we drove back into La Paz for a long walk on the Malecόn

We got back to the See Ya in time for the second half of the Super Bowl that was televised on two local stations!
Tomorrow we head for the ferry!
