This says it all

There is NO place like home…. Thursday morning we left Birmingham on Hwy 280 East. About 60 miles later, we were in the town of Alexander City where our dear friends Judy and Glen had driven up form their place near Montgomery to meet us for breakfast. How great was that? Their grandson Daniel was in school so we didn’t get to see him this time but they gave us a picture of him. Wow, has he grown. We parked our house at the Walmart and they picked us up and took us to the Huddle house. We all had great food and conversation. All to soon, we were on our way again but were thankful for what little time we did have together.

The same highway took us across the rest of Alabama and into Georgia and right through the city of Plains. Of course, Plains is the home of Jimmy and Roseland Carter, our 39th President, so we stopped at the National Historic Site and Museum. The site is in the old Plains High School where the tow of them graduated from. We watched a movie of their road to the presidency and then walked around the town to the old depot where his campaign was held to his brother Billy’s gas station. We went into the store that used to be the peanut plant that Jimmy’s Dad and later Jimmy ran. We had some peanut butter ice cream from there and I bought some wonderful fried peanuts. We just can’t get into the boiled peanuts though. It is harvest time for the peanuts right now and we saw several truckloads coming into town. Sure wish we could have seen them harvesting them but the little country roads are not the place we want to take our house. If we had been in the truck only, we would have driven around to their old farmhouse. The Carters still live in Plains and are very active in their church. In fact, the former President of the United States still teaches Sunday School there. I find that very endearing somehow. Carter was not my favorite president by any means but anyone that can go through the politicing and serving as the head of our country for four years gets my respect and it was interesting seeing his home land.

We continued on the same highway until we got to I-75 and the town of Cordelle, GA where we spent the night. We had originally planned on continuing on to Savannah and staying there for a few more days and coming down the East Coast to our place but I have been having a real bad hair month and when I called my hairdresser in Silver Springs, she could get me in today. We made the turn South on I-75 and arrived at our little piece of land about 1:00. We really started to get excited by the time we got to Gainesville and the last 30 miles seemed to take forever.

It is so good to be home. Of course we have lots of yard work to do after being gone for six months but we will take our time now and just enjoy sitting in one spot for awhile.

We’ll be back when we have something exciting to share……….Later………..
