Oh what a decision we had to make today. First let me tell you that our plans were to go to the Anahuser Busch original Plant today and take the tour. St Louis is where it all began and they have tours daily. You already know from when we were at Busch Gardens in Florida how much we love the horses but you also know that we are not big beer drinkers. I will say though that Bill likes to try out the local beers when we have lunch and he used to love having a cold one while mowing the lawn when we had our sticks and brick home. Come to think of it, he always had a Bud when he was at the Bar-B-Cue. We also had planned on going to see the Botanical Gardens but the more we read the more we wanted to take a day trip to a place that we have wanted to visit for a long time.
Missouri is wine country. In fact it is second only to California. We have visited Stone Hill Winery several times when we were in Branson and have heard how beautiful the Vineyards were. They are located in the town of Hermann, Missouri and it’s October. While reading about things to do in the St Louis area we read again about Hermann. The article said that Hermann has been voted the most beautiful city in the state and in October every weekend is Octoberfest. Well the German in us won out and we headed back about 90 miles to see if the brochures were correct. We’ll let you be the judge by our pictures. What a great time we had.
There were nine winerys on the trail that we took and we only stopped at four of them. A person would have to be here for the whole weekend to really see them all. By the time we got to our second one at about 2:00 it was plain to see that some people had been here since early morning. I sure hope they had designated drivers. I know I had mine. During our lunch I wanted a glass of wine. It was only sold by the bottle so what was I to do? They did put it in a bag for me when we left so thankfully, I didn’t have to drink the whole bottle. LOL
The scenery along the Missouri River was awesome and even though the trees are still green in most places, as soon as we got by the water, the colors were beautiful.
Well we missed some of the things that we wanted to see in St Louis and many more that we don’t even know about yet but that gives us a really good reason to return. No more just driving thru..
Tomorrow we will head to Memphis. Another place that we have just driven through. We don’t plan on doing that this time though so come on back. Later………
