Meandering to Quebec & The Maritime Provinces travel blog

We said good-bye to our Alfa friends and pulled out fairly early because we had decided to take the two-lane road from Ellsworth to Augusta to avoid the construction on Route 1A. We ran into a little congestion through Ellsworth but then it was smooth sailing…well as smooth as it can be on a country road in Maine. We pulled off once to get Foxy out for a walk and then we rolled on to the Maine turnpike at Augusta.

We stopped for lunch at a rest area and were reminded how scarce real estate is in this neck of the woods; everyone was scrunched in and a couple of RV’s were pulled into designated bus spots.

We are at the KOA in Saco near Old Orchard Beach for two nights. KOA’s are generally not our #1 places to stay because they are so expensive for what you get; but this one advertised long pull-through sites and, sure enough, we got one of those sites. It’s hard to find space for a 40 ft. high-profile rig in New England. My friend, Karen, would not like this park….densely forested would only start to accurately describe the trees….no prayer of catching a satellite signal…they do have cable TV and a weak Wi-Fi set up so we’re OK for a couple of nights.

Tomorrow, we’ll poke around the south coast a bit.
