On Sunday we drove south with Scott on board for a visit to our old stomping grounds in the south suburbs of Chicago. We are staying at Martin’s Campground near Joliet.

This is an opportunity to see our friends from the years when we lived here from 1972 to 1989. But first on the agenda, and first in Scott’s heart, was a visit to Cellular Field

and the Chicago White Sox. The ballpark has changed substantially since our last visit. One of the biggest changes are the result of the White Sox World Championship 2005 season. There is now a monument

in front of the stadium commemorating that season.

We met our friend Art Bell

at the ballpark for the game. Art had obtained tickets for us and admission to the Stadium Club where we had a light dinner. The Sox are having a good season and there was a good crowd as the home team took the field.

The home team emerged with a 9-0 victory and the fans rapped up the evening in a good mood.

On Thursday Sue and I had a great evening visiting with Linda and Tom Savick (forgot the camera!) and their friends Tim and Nancy Zajeski. We had a nice dinner, reminisced about old times, and came back to the See Ya for a look see particularly for the Zajeskis who are considering hitting the road.

Friday night Tom Savick joined Sue, Scott, and I as we met Kathy and Ray Greenhill for dinner at the Greengarden Country Club. It was another evening of good discussion. (p)

Saturday was a particularly fun day as we joined Kathy Greenhill’s family

at the backyard pool of her sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Bob Hanson. It was very reminiscent of the many days by the pool in the McAteer yard in the 1970s and 80s.

We had a chance to meet all of Kathy’s five grandsons ranging in age from infant to 4 years old. It was a really fun afternoon.

Tomorrow we will move eastward into Indiana and a visit to Indiana Dunes State Park on Lake Michigan.
