To Golden Gate NP

We visited the Caravan Park Restaurant for Breakfast. Obviously this is a destination conference center. The restaurant overlooked the Moddeer River and had a great buffet breakfast. It also had an unusual sign - it advertised a "Ladies Bar". We're not sure what the significance of that sign is, but we haven't seen one like it before.

We had mostly Carriage Ways again today, but several construction zones with long waits. Several of our group saw a number of lions on a game farm after leaving the park. We missed them trying to negotiate our designated "shortcut" of 9 km of Alaska style washboard road. We had a loud ringing from the dish cabinet that sounded like all the dishes were breaking. Turned out to be the top to the sugar bowl had fallen inside the bowl, and Sally couldn't get it out. Had to store it somewhere else for sanity purposes.

We made a grocery and lunch stop at the only mall along the route. They had a great KFC establishment.

Golden Gate NP is above 6000 feet, so it's cooler than we've experienced tonight. The brochure claims a wide variety of animals, but we only saw a couple of small deer like animals. It's primary attractions are the hills and rock formations. The guide books had glowing reviews of them. The scenery was good, but the rocks were only about a 2 on a 1-10 scale if you've seen Utah.

I hiked up a trail for a sunset photo. Thought it would be a bust as all the clouds were dark and the sun appeared to be down, but finally it dropped below the cloud deck enough to get a fair sunset.

Tomorrow will be a long day. Not the drive, it's the "craft and gift shop" alternate route (to the Carriage Way) that all the ladies want to take.
