6/24 – 6/26

It took us a day to drive 222 miles to Taylor, Arizona. Most of the trip was along US 60 which was a beautiful drive. The highlight was the drive down into Salt River Canyon and then the drive right back out – beautiful. In Taylor we stayed in our friends’ driveway. We met Joni and Ted LeBlanc in Livingston, Texas during our first year full-timing and have communicated with them ever since. On the night we arrived Joni and Ted took us to a 4 star Mexican restaurant called La Cocina de Eva (201 N. Main Street, Snowflake, Arizona 928-536-7683). Both their cheese enchiladas and their chicken special (chicken chimichanga with a delicious sauce) were excellent.

We took a day trip to the Petrified Forest National Park, about a 50 miles from Taylor. The park includes a 28 mile drive with numerous stops along the way. We viewed huge petrified logs, stopped at overlooks along the Painted Desert, walked to the ruins of the Puerco Pueblo and toured a restored inn that was used during the Route 66 era. Good park.

We had a good visit with Joni and Ted and are grateful for their hospitality.
