Dell Scenery on the Wisconsin River

We left Billings and headed east on Interstate 90. We crossed the Mississippi River at La Crosse Wisconsin as the road headed southeast through dairy country toward the state capitol at Madison. Our campground of choice was a KOA in Deforest, about 15 miles north of Madison.

On Tuesday we drove into Madison

where we took a stroll along one of the city's two major lakes and spent a little time driving around the town and the University of Wisconsin campus.

Deforest is another of the small communities that we have found so enjoyable to visit. Like many others they had a free community concert

in the park featuring local and regional talent.

Yesterday Scott

flew into Chicago and took the bus to Janesville, WI where we picked him up and returned to Deforest. He will be with us for a ten day visit.

Today was Sue’s birthday and she chose a dinner theater performance of “Flashdance” at the Broadway Dinner Theater near Wisconsin Dells for her celebration. We headed to the Dells just after lunch.

As you may have heard, the dam at Dell Lake and the road that traversed it collapsed during heavy rains about a month ago and the lake emptied

destroying five homes in the process. They have begun work to rebuild the dam and to redivert Dell Creek and refill the lake, but it won’t be complete until next year. In the meantime the dry lake bed has become its own tourist attraction. We were amused by the sense of humor of a local businessman

who appears to be taking the loss of a season of business in stride.

One can’t visit the Dells without taking a ride on the Ducks. There are several companies that employ the WW2 amphibeous vehicles for tours. We chose the Original Wisconsin Dells Company for our tour and had an enjoyable time traveling on the river

and through the woods on the shore.

The dinner theater was enjoyable with first rate food and a good show. Sue had a nice birthday!
