6/8 – 6/9

It took us two days to travel the 174 miles to Fort Wayne, Indiana. The first day we traveled to Decatur, Indiana on I-75 and US33. We parked overnight at the local Wal-Mart and then continued the remaining 38 miles to the Wal-Mart in Fort Wayne.

In Fort Wayne we split up. Joan visited the Allen County Library where she spent the day researching Ken’s family genealogy. Ken headed up to Auburn to check out the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Museum. The museum is located in the old Auburn factory showroom and headquarter’s building. In 1924 E. L. Cord came to Auburn Motors as general manager. He reduced the price of the eight cylinder Auburn and within two years owned the company. A new model was called Cord and he bought out Duesenberg. In 1928 he produced the Duesenberg Model J, the nation’s most expensive luxury car. Manufacturing ceased in 1937 due to changing tastes and hard economic times. The museum has over 100 automobiles all in excellent condition.

We enjoyed a 4 star dinner at A Taste of India (5515-D Coldwater Road, Fort Wayne 260-471-6040). We can strongly recommend the goat marsala and garlic naam.
