Meandering to Quebec & The Maritime Provinces travel blog

The view from our campground

And our secluded spots on the terraced hillside

The weather has chilled down quite dramatically here. We’re gone from shorts to long pants and we’re grabbing jackets for our morning walks. Nonetheless, the weather is beautiful and very autumn’ish feeling. We planned to get on the road about 10:30 this morning since we have just a short 75-mile drive. Howard took a walk to the beach and we were ready to roll shortly after he got back.

The roads were very rough and twisty; Foxy is becoming less tolerant of these driving conditions so we stopped to get her out for a quick run at Margaree Harbour. I was promising her the stretch of the Cabot Trail to Baddeck would be smoother; she says I lied; not only was it not smoother but there was a stretch under construction and it was barely wide enough to squeeze the coaches through as the CAT driver was swinging the back end half way into our lane. However, we made it through and we were glad to see TCH105.

We needed one more fill-up on diesel to carry us to Maine and we spotted an Irving station and enriched the local economy with a top-up there. Gail & I even bought Tim Horton’s coffee and muffins while Joe & Howard fueled. We are glad we won’t have to buy anymore of that expensive Canadian diesel.

We reached the campground and we are on the top level of the terraced lot with a beautiful view of Bras d’Or Lake and the Seal Island Bridge. We got ourselves situated and had lunch. Howard was having trouble pulling in a TV signal so he & Joe ran a cable so he can piggyback from our satellite dish.

We went to Cedar House for dinner. This was a combination restaurant / bakery; food was good, it was crowded, and we brought home some homemade baked goods for later.

Tomorrow, weather permitting, we’ll probably do some sightseeing on the east side of Cape Breton Island.
