A journey of 141 miles brought us north on US89 to the Lone Rock Recreation Area just past the Arizona border in Utah. We had a great site overlooking the south end of Lake Powell. Except for the high temperatures (low 100’s) it was a beautiful location. We took an interesting tour of the Glen Canyon Dam, the huge dam that created and maintains Lake Powell, provides electricity to many cities and towns, and controls the amount of water that flows through the Grand Canyon. While in the area we took two hikes, one to an overlook that provided an excellent view of the dam and the other hike brought us to a panoramic view of Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River. Ken also took a ride to Lee’s Ferry. John D. Lee was a Mormon who was assigned by his church to build and operate a ferry across the Colorado river. By 1873 Lee had built a ferry boat named the Colorado. Part of Lee’s Lonely Dell Ranch can be seen by the river.
