St. Lucia to Pangolo via Hluhluwe National Park - March 18
Our day started with a breakfast boat cruise on St. Lucia Lake. The rain continued from last night. The boat was open, but had a canvas cover, which occasionally dumped its collected water inside. We saw several new birds, crocs, and again the tops of lots of Hippos.
Hluhluwe NP is adjacent to Imfolozi and almost paralled our scheduled route so all of us elected to drive thru it hoping for a repeat of yesterdays experience. The non-paved roads ware a bit slippery on flat spots. Fortunately the water ran off the hills so we could get up, and down, safely. The photos tell the story. We spotted three of the Big 5 - White Rhino, Buffalo, and Elephant plus lots of Impala, Giraffe, Zebra, and Wildebeest and a couple of new birds. We stayed until the last possible time to leave and still make the 130 km drive to Pongolo. The rain had stopped by the time we arrived, late for happy hour but in time for the cookout. The considerate rain waited until our cookout was over and started again.
