YO!
well i arrived in New York last night and i have to say that i have been just blown away with the place - what a city! so to set the scene, i got off my flight at about 7pm last night and took a shuttle into the city to my hotel. i'm staying right in the guts of it all, a block off Broadway and about 6 blocks from Time Square. after getting setteled in i went out for an explore. walking down the street after a great cheap meal at a diner i was pretty overwelmed by the place. but how about this for surreal, walking in Time Square, looking in the window of an electronics shop there was a big TV that had some skiing on it. it looked oddly familier, then the caption came up, Coronet Peak, Queenstown New Zealand! i figured it was a sign and good karma. for the next few hours i wandered around trying to take it all in, the scale - the vertical scale is daunting. New York is like no place i have ever been, it compares to nothing. and to be totally honest - I LOVE the place!
this morning i woke early and went for a wander around - walking in Central Park with the joggers ad dog walkers starting their day. i grabbed a ho-cho and sat in Strawberry Fields at the John Lennon memorial - it was a very touching place to be, more emmotional then i had expected and that could be said for the many other people who took it in this morning too. then it was on to explore the city more, across the park, up to The Met, up the street to the Guganheim (ok i KNOW that is spelled wrong) and now down into midtown Manhattin to the Apple Store where there has to be 200 compurters all for free use and all filled with people.
New York has been so much more than i expected, i thought it would be a huge impersonal city, a city where i didn't feel all that safe or comfortable. but that is so far from the reality, it is beautiful, alive and full of cool. it is a great city that i will miss when it comes time to leave...
this afternoon i'm off to the UN and to see some more of the big sites around town...
oh and before i forget, i had my moment of cool last night, i was in the Virgin Megastore music shop in times Square (it's a record shop the size of a grocery store) and i was just wandering around and this woman came up to me and asked if i worked there - i felt like i was the man!
take care out there and i'll post again soon...

ps. i really do heart NY!
