Cape Town, South Africa - Day 1
Our 1st day in Africa started with a Hotel Buffet Breakfast, standard for most tours. Each is a bit different based on local culture, and the habits of the hotels' tourist client base. More than one should eat before a morning of orientation briefings which started at 9 am. Not as easy schedule as it looks as on our internal clocks it is 2 am, and after spending the previous 30 hours, or more, in airports and on planes.
We got really fancy digs for the orientation - the Hotel Boardroom - huge table and soft leather chairs. Getting organized went well with briefings, signing for motor homes, and getting our cell phones within a couple of hours. Then it was off to the waterfront Malls for a "pre-Lent" shopping therapy for the ladies before we head for 5 weeks of the real South Africa. Cape Town is a holiday destination for many in Europe, and the rainbow/ethnic fruit salad of the Mall crowds reflected that. Great people watching! Probably the best use of the day too, as it we had rain off and on most of the time. Shows how much faith you can have in weather forecasts. I had checked daily for the last week and sunny and clear was predicted for the entire time we are in Cape Town.
Our day ended with the tour Welcome Dinner in the hotel restaurant. Great meal - both variety and quality. Cape town is blessed with many great places to eat.
