Judy and Robin

6/24 – 6/28

We continued on US12 and US87 for 770 miles for four days before arriving at Great Falls, Montana. Our first night’s stop was an Alco Market Place parking lot in Mobridge, South Dakota. The second day on the road was filled with adventure. After we arrived at the Wal-Mart in Miles City we picked up our mail at the post office and then went home and turned on the air conditioner (it was 103 degrees). Later in the afternoon we found out that we had no water. Ken checked outside and some of our water was watering the Wal-Mart parking lot. We found out that a fitting on the pump had failed and our water pump had pumped about 80 gallons of water into our basement bins. Since Wal-Mart did not have an outside water bib we decided to drive to a local campground for the night to make repairs, dry out and refill. Ken got the fitting fixed, the tank filled and luckily the water pump still worked. We left everything that was in the bins outside overnight so all could dry out. The next day we stayed in the campground until about noon and everything was almost dry by the time we pulled out. We continued on US12 to Roundup, Montana where we stayed at a roadside gravel storage area for the night then completed our trip to the Wal-Mart in Great Falls.

While in Great Falls we visited our friend Ruth Atkison’s son Robin and his wife Judy. Robin visited us in Elk, Washington in 2008 and we wanted to return the visit. They recommend we eat at the best steak place in Great Falls - and we did. We had some of the best steak we have ever had at the 5 star Cattlemen’s Cut (369 Vaughn South Frontage Rd., Great Falls 406-452-0702). Not only was the steak excellent everything else was – including the clam chowder and the salad bar.
