We had a much shorter and easier drive planned today; but, we did get going early to get ahead of the forecasted rain and wind. Our route was all on I-20 and, while it’s not the best road, it’s not the worst either. About 60 miles put Texas behind us and we crossed into Louisiana. We decided to top off our fuel in Greenwood; we needed only 40 gallons but the price was too good to pass up ($3.38 / gallon). The engine monitor indicated the Cat engine has consumed 9,000 gallons of fuel during its life. Fortunately for us, we didn’t have to pay $3.38 a gallon for all of that; in fact, our rolling average is $2.30 / gallon.
A little construction in Shreveport slowed us down a few minutes but it was a short stretch. We had lunch just a little beyond Ruston and enjoyed the scenery which consisted mostly of bayous, cotton fields, and trees. Open rest areas were few and far between with most of those indicated on the atlas closed….must be the answer to a budget problem for the state.
We decided we’d stop in Vicksburg, just beyond the Mississippi River Bridge in Mississippi. We clocked our day at 245 miles and we’re at our home for the night, Magnolia RV Park. We stayed here before and we’re surprised how full the park is…lots of what appears to be semi-permanent guests. We got one of the last couple of spots that could accommodate a rig our size.
So, the almost-full park got our attention and we decided to do a little advance planning for tomorrow. We should be able to make Mobile, AL and we got a reservation booked there although availability didn’t seem to be a problem when I called.
Foxy hung out outside and gnawed on a chew bone while Joe & I caught up on email and looked at our route for tomorrow. We’re planning a light supper at home and a relatively early start again tomorrow. Until then, good night from MS.
