We left the campground in Amherst about 9:30 a.m. and went to the Irving truck stop in New Brunswick to fuel up the motor homes. Diesel set us back $1.026 / liter…yikes, that’s expensive. Since we had a short drive, we decided to have breakfast at the restaurant and the food was good. Then we headed for Shubenacadie. We paid $5.25 in tolls to get over the Cobequid Pass, which was at about 1,000 feet elevation. Then it was a short run to the campground, Whispering Winds.
We navigated our way over the unbelievably narrow road to our sites. Now, let me tell you there was nothing ‘whispering’ here. The voltage monitors were screaming at us. Even though we can usually live easily with a good 30 amp site for a few nights, there was no way of living with the sub 100 v we were getting here. So, Joe & Howard drove the Jeep back to the office to get our money back and Gail & I searched the campground directories to find another campground.
We were successful on both counts and we moved to Hilden to Scotia Pines and got 50 amp sites; they are not terribly level but at least the power is strong. Our meals were pretty messed up so we had a light lunch / afternoon snack, took Foxy for a walk, and visited with Gail & Howard for a while. Then we had a light supper at home.
Life on the road is so much fun when you’re going to ‘never been to before’ campgrounds. We have concluded the ratings in the commercial directories are pretty much unreliable but they are the best guides we have.
Our troubles weren’t over; Howard & Joe hooked up the cable TV but couldn’t get any signal…same story with the coach next to Howard…so, they went to the office at this campground and got a credit for the non-functioning cable since we had paid extra for it.
Tomorrow, we sightsee so tune in again for more adventures.
