North toward Hermiston

I-84 Heading West

Into the Columbia Gorge

Columbia River Barge

Mount Hood

Rest Stop

We thought it would be good to escape the heat in Caldwell and headed to Vancouver. It didn’t work! Vancouver is even hotter.

It took us two days to make the trip. On the first day we drove to Hermiston, OR On I-84. Almost all of the drive was through dry country. We saw a lot of yellow grass and then no grass and then heavy winds and dust. We stayed overnight in Hermistad. The only event of our stay was an attempted dinner at Shari’s Restaurant where the service was so slow that we left without eating. It worked out though because we had a great Mexican dinner instead.

The day two drive was totally different. We continued on I-84 but soon after leaving Hermistad we reached the bank of the Columbia River and then entered the Columbia River Gorge. We recommend this scenic drive. In addition to the gorge the sunny day provided a great view of Mount Hood. It seemed that the trip was twice as fast as the previous day’s trip.

We are now parked at the Vancouver RV Park on the west side of Vancouver. It is over 100 degrees and the forecast is for more of the same.
