Our travels continued through more dry country as we headed northwest from Salt Lake City into Idaho and through Boise. We landed at the Pioneer RV Park in Caldwell, ID. The weather here has been a big disappointment with temperatures in excess of 100 degrees. The RV park is not a could place for camping. But it is a very nice RV park with spacious sites and full 50-amp hookups. Our only beef is weak wifi at our site.
The weather has sharply restricted our activities. We walk and run early in the morning and then mostly hibernate through the afternoon and into the evening. Sue was out late enough to catch a pretty post-sunset Idaho sky. The See Ya air conditioning is performing nobly to keep the inside temp at 80 or below. On Friday afternoon we went to a movie (The Hangover) partially to take advantage of the theater air conditioning.
On Monday we decided to head for some altitude to try to find cooler temps. We headed the Escape north of Boise up route 55 along the Payette River. It is a road that we drove a few years ago on our Alaskan trip. The river is lively through this canyon.
When we reached Smith's Ferry we turned off the main road and headed up a 15-mile long dirt road up the mountain to the Sage Hen Reservoir. The reservoir lies in an evergreen tree rich basin in the mountains. The weather there was barely cool enough to afford a 5-mile hike around the lake. It was a pleasant area, but the warm air made it a lengthy hike.
We headed down another side of the mountain through Ola to route 52 and then returned to route 55 at Horseshoe Bend before heading back to the campground. It was good to get outside!
Plans call for us to head to Vancouver, WA at the end of this week for a running race in nearby Camas.
