10/1 – 10/6
We continued our journey starting in Jordan Valley, Oregon and traveling 642 miles to Pahrump, Nevada. The trip took us three days following US95 and Nevada SR160. Along the way we stayed at a Wal-Mart parking lot in Winnemucca, Nevada and a rest area in Tonopah, Nevada. In Winnemucca we went to a 4 star restaurant in the Martin Hotel (94 W Railroad Street 775-623-3197). This is a Basque restaurant featuring long tables serve family style. The meal includes: soup, salad (that you put Basque beans on), carrots, mashed potatoes, garbanzo beans with chorizo sausage, wine, French fries and bread pudding. Joan and I split a main dish which was called Solomo (pork loin with garlic and pimento). Everything was very good to outstanding. Even after splitting a meal we still had leftovers.
In Pahrump we stayed at the Pair-of-Dice RV park. We got a chance to visit with our friends Bill and Ethel Wallace. One day we took a ride with Bill and Ethel to Wheeler Pass. The gravel road through the pass provides a link between Pahrump and Las Vegas. Unfortunately, part of the road goes through private property so we could only travel about half way. Along the way we saw a number of very healthy Joshua Trees.
