7/3 – 7/4
A quick 35 miles on PH3 brought us to the town of Fort Macleod. We stayed in the driveway of Doug and Jean Poile. We met these fine folks through email and they had invited us to stay at their place while we toured the area. While in Fort Macleod we:
>visited Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. The story is that a young Indian brave wanted to watch the buffalo hunt and the buffalo’s falling off the cliff. He found a location under a ledge. Because it was an unusually successful kill the buffalo piled up until they spilled under the ledge and suffocated the young boy. They had a huge museum at the site that was quite good.
>took a tour of the Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod. The theatre was built in 1912 and has been used, off and on, since then. Dianne and Ken went to an evening performance at the theatre called Hockey Boys. It was very entertaining.
>drove to Cardston where we toured the excellent Remington Carriage Museum. This museum has over 250 carriages, buggies, wagons and sleighs. We received a personal tour of the museum which included the restoration workshop. Some of the interesting exhibits included a school bus wagon and a taxi carriage.
We want to thank Doug and Jean for their hospitality, it was a great stop.
