We have just spent two days at Charlie's Repair Service in Sunset, UT. Despite having had a rough year that saw the loss of Vicki's dad, their dear friend, Maggie, and a fire that destroyed their See Ya, Charlie and Vicki continue to be upbeat, competent and entertaining.
We left Fruita yesterday morning and headed westward into Utah. The landscape quickly became desolate although we did have a nice view of the LaSalle Mountain Range to the south. There is not a great deal of civilization along this route with the only community of any substance being Green River.
We turned north when we reached route 6 and headed toward Price. The landscape was much the same until we began to get near to Price. At that point we began to climb hills and enjoy some interesting rock formations. After our descent into Price we began the ascent to the northwest through a scenic portion of highway that climbed high enough to reach a green landscape of trees and grasses.
Finally, we descended back to a semi-arid climate as we reached I-15 just south of Provo where we turned north toward Salt Lake City. The mountains that could be seen from here still had some snow cover at their peaks. We moved through SLC and continued another 30 miles north to Sunset, where Charlie's facility is located.
We were greeted by Charlie and his amiable assistant, Tom. Tom was Maggie's husband and is still dealing with the grief and financial repercussions of her death. Nevertheless, he greeted us cheerfully and would work with us during our two day stay to ensure that our needed minor repairs got done. If you care - we had a cmpartment door realigned, added an inside handle to close an exhaust fan door that formerly required a step ladder to close outside, had an electrical outlet rewired, and recaulked both front wheel wells.
Last night we joined Charlie, Vicki, Tom, and another couple for dinner at a restaurant a few miles up the Ogden River Canyon, where Sue and I had raced a few years ago. Tonight there were two other couples and the big three and we went to a local Chinese restaurant for dinner. Getting repairs done at Charlie's is more of a social occasion than a repair stop! It's been fun, but we need to move northward. It's still too warm here!
