Hitch itch was really getting bad… We don’t usually spend that much time in one area and even though it is quite relaxing for a few days, it was really getting time to hitch up the house and do a little traveling again.
Our week was busy even while we weren’t pulling our house. On Saturday we drove the 100 miles or so to see Bill’s Mom again… His sister Jeanne and her husband Bob drove here from Casper, WY. and we wanted to see them also so we went to meet them for lunch. We were joined by sister-in-law Shirlett who is the widow of Bill’s younger brother… It was nice to all be together for a happy occasion since so often lately it is for sad times…
Sunday we started to get ready to move the house and it is surprising how many things you get out when you are sitting still for awhile… These things all have to be restored before we can travel down the road so we got a head start on Sunday.. Later on in the afternoon our friends Bill and Diane returned to the campground and got a site right next to us. They were gone for a few weeks but came back for Diane’s Doctors appointment.. Diane is the one that fell when they were here earlier and dislocated her elbow. She needed a follow up to see how things were healing… We were happy to hear today that she is above schedule with the healing process. She does her exercises several times a day and it seems to be working… We went to dinner with them at the Mystic Lake Casino… August is seafood month and they had a super special. One of the five restaurants served whole lobster for 2 for $19.95 while another one has shrimp (8 of them) for $7.95 with all the trimmings… We had already tried the lobster so this time it was the shrimp… Wow… by the time I finished the huge salad, bread, baked potato and corn on the cob all I had room for was three shrimp… Not to worry, we got a box and brought it home… It proved to be a great lunch the next day when we were on the road and didn’t want to stop at a restaurant…
Yesterday we finally got to back the truck into the hitch and away we went… We were heading southwest to Sioux Falls, SD. which is our address since we went full time…. Every five years we must return in person to renew our drivers license…. That proves to be a problem for us since the renewal is on your birthday and in our case, Bill’s is Jan. 17th and mine is March 29th. Now that is not the most ideal time to come back to Sioux Falls. We really don’t like cold anymore and the thought of snow turns us even colder… Thankfully the great state of South Dakota works with us and we are allowed to renew within a six month window before your birthday… That works great for Bill cuz he can come anytime after July 17th but in my case I have to wait until after Sept. 29th….. That doesn’t sound too bad but in our case we will be in Ohio until the 1st part of October and would have to return several hundred miles and then get south quick since many of the campgrounds close after Labor Day our at least by the end of September…. Well, the nice State of South Dakota has an option of a temporary extension and I found out that I can fill out a form and they will extend my license without penalty until we return next May…. Wow, does that ever save us miles since now we can continue to the East Coast from Ohio on our way to our place in Florida…
Well we really do like South Dakota so we came back for a couple of days to renew Bill’s…. We could have extended his also and came back together in May but it really wasn’t necessary to do that for him so we are here and he now has his new license that will last until 2015… Boy does that seem like a long time huh? For those of you that might also have your address with Alternative Resources in Sioux Falls, let me give you a warning… Tuesday is not the day to get your driver’s license or your renewal…. The offices are just a few doors away from AR but they are only open Tues-Fri and Tuesday is very busy…. We had to wait for about 1 ½ hrs for our # to be called.. I’m sure Wed. wouldn’t be nearly that bad… It was kind’a fun though.. We saw several young kids coming in for their first license and it was so exciting for them.. Oh to be sixteen again..
By the time we finally left the place it was well into the lunch hour so we found a place to eat which just happened to be right across the street from the Ford Dealer.. They had several of the new 2010 Ford trucks on their lot which we had not seen in Minnesota. We got the new brochures and will study them and see what might work for us if/when we get a new one.
One of the most awesome places in Sioux Falls is of course,, The Falls….. Well we have been there several times and showed you lots of pictures so today we decided to go to the Japanese Gardens in a park quite close to the falls… What a nice relaxing place. It didn’t have the flowers that a lot of the gardens have but the trees were awesome and it was beautiful… We got some great pictures to share with you so I hope you enjoy it as much as we did…
Tomorrow we will go back into Minnesota for some more family things and some Drs. Appointments for both Bill and I before we get ready to leave next week on our next journey…. Come on back…… Later……………
