Dr Pepper Museum, Waco, Texas

Dr Pepper Museum, Waco, Texas

3/24 – 3/29

On the 24th we headed up US45 until it intersected with US84 where we began our westward trek. It took us 4 days to travel the 704 miles to Waco, Texas. We stopped along the way at 2 Big Creek State Water Park in Soso, Mississippi and two Wal-Marts, one in Brookhaven, Mississippi and the other in Mansfield, Louisiana.

We stayed at the Midway Corp of Engineers park in Waco, Texas for three nights. It was a nice campground, a great place to stay for a few days. While we were there we went to the main attraction in Waco, the Dr Pepper Museum.

The Dr Pepper soft drink was invented at the Old Corner Drug Store (in Waco) in 1885. The Dr Pepper Museum is housed in the soft drink’s second bottling plant which was built in 1906. The museum includes a reproduction of the Old Corner Drug Store along with some of the original bottling equipment. We received an excellent tour of this interesting museum. Of course the highlight of the tour was a stop at the soda fountain where they served up Dr Pepper the “old fashioned” way – sure tasted better than the canned version.
