Passing Las Vegas on I-15

South out of Pahrump

We enjoyed Pahrump more than we expected to. The campground had excellent facilities at a Passport America price and the food at Terrible's Town Casino was good and very inexpensive.

Yesterday morning we headed south and east out of Pahrump with the intention of getting to national park territory in Utah. We hit I-15 just west of Las Vegas and negotiated some slow traffic through the city parallel to the strip. Quickly after leaving LV we were back in the desert.

The topography changed dramatically as we neared the Utah border and started the climb through the Virgin River Canyon. (The Virgin River is the same river that created the canyon at Zion National Park). The countryside became more rugged and gained color as we ascended.

We chose Hurricane, UT as our stopping point because it is located about halfway toward our next destination and because it has a super campground, The Willowind RV Park. We rested here today to enjoy the local scenery and the campground. We move on in the morning.
