7/29 - 7/30
It took us two days to drive 219 miles to Fruita, Colorado. We took SR72 back up to US50/I-70 and continued on US50 into Colorado. The first night we stayed in an abandoned rest area by Thompson, Utah. Both SR70 and US50 were beautiful highways to travel on.
In Fruita we stayed at the Saddlehorn Campground in Colorado National Monument. Although quite warm (high 90's) we enjoyed our stay in the park. Colorado National Monument features a 23 mile long drive (Rim Rock Drive) along the rim of three breath-taking canyons. Along with the drive, we took a number of short hikes, a hike with a park naturalist and quick tours of Fruita and Grand Junction.
