We woke up to a positively lovely morning; the sun was actually shining brightly, a sight we haven’t seen in a while. Foxy discovered a muskrat yesterday and she was obsessed with going back to find him again this morning; he was long gone, of course. Joe had done a lot of the prep work last night to get us moving this morning. So, we got on the road about 10 o’clock bound for Grand Falls, New Brunswick, about 120 miles away.
It was reasonably nice countryside, very rural and mostly agricultural, but it was difficult to enjoy it because of long stretches of road construction…requiring paying close attention to navigating over the really compressed and narrow lanes. We were thankful it wasn’t raining; it would have been mud city.
We stopped at a rest area in Quebec near Lac Temiscouata and it was so great to get out and walk and enjoy the fine day; even Foxy didn’t want to get back in the motor home. We made a lunch stop at the New Brunswick Tourist Information Center and we actually tied her up outside. After lunch, I did a quick peruse of the travel brochures and we were on our way again. We lose an hour out of our lives today as New Brunswick is on Atlantic time; however, we’ll get it back again on Saturday when we go back to Riviere du Loup.
We arrived at our campground for the next three nights. To get a satellite signal, we had to sacrifice a sewer connection. It’s quite common here to find RV parks with water and electric and no sewer. We don’t do as well with that kind of set-up but the trade off would have been no internet and TV…OK, so we’ll take short showers and eat out.
We're a bit of an oddity here at the park; several people have stopped to look at the motor home. One lady hit the brakes on her golf cart and said "Wow, I've never seen anything that big". When Joe took Foxy for her night walk, a few people asked if he was from the "big Alfa". They are obviously not accustomed to coaches of this size. We had to ask to get maintenance to cut one of the tree branches so we can drive out on Saturday without sweeping everything off the roof. The guy came with a chainsaw and got the job done promptly.
If the weather holds, we plan to explore the St. John River Valley tomorrow. It is forecast to get down in the low 40's tonight.
