8/11 - 8/13
It was a beautiful 164 mile drive to Pueblo West, Colorado. We crossed the Rocky Mountains and the Continental Divide at Monarch Pass - 11,312 feet above sea level. This is the highest spot on US50 and starts our downhill section which will last until we get to the Missouri River. Pueblo West is a small town just west of Pueblo. Denver is about 110 miles to the north.
One day we drove to Denver to visit with Joan's niece Blythe Barney. She lives in a beautiful loft close to downtown. After giving us a tour of her loft she took us around Denver and show us the sites including the 16th Street Mall, the Capitol and Union Station. She also drove us out to the red rock section to see the Red Rock Amphitheater. We had a great visit.
Another day we walked around old town Pueblo and saw the restored Union Pacific Railroad Depot.
