Fortunately, the rain stopped long enough to allow Joe to disconnect utilities, hook up the Jeep, and roll out without getting soaked. It dribbled rain on and off on our route northeast to Riviere du Loup. We stopped at a rest area and I donned my winter jacket to get Foxy out for a walk….yes, my winter jacket….in July. The natives tell us this summer is unusually cold and wet; for their sakes, we hope it’s not the norm. Even Ireland is never this cold and wet this time of year.
The drive here was just 120 miles through some pretty nice countryside, mostly dominated by rich and fertile farmland. The St. Lawrence was not far out of sight and a few vessels were floating along. We arrived at the campground a little after noon and they had to put us in a holding site until our reserved site opened up. We wanted a 50 amp site because we knew we’d have to run heat and they have only a limited number of those; plus, a satellite-friendly site is crucial to us even though they do have free Wi-Fi here.
We had lunch and moved to our reserved site; it’s a beautiful spot right on the riverfront…not that we can see the river. It’s totally obscured with fog, mist, haze and all the other undesirable side effects from 10 days of almost continuous rain. We’re going to hang out a few days to see if the weather picture improves.
