Meandering to Quebec & The Maritime Provinces travel blog

The heavy rain serenaded us all night but it was dry by morning so Joe got all the utilities disconnected and we were on the road by 9 o’clock.

We debated on whether to take the Trans Canada Highway or the scenic route closer to the river. We opted for the fast highway and plan to backtrack a little in the Jeep on the river road later. It’s difficult to find a place to pull in a big rig and we felt we wouldn’t be able to really enjoy the scenery if we couldn’t stop at the turnouts and points of interest along the way. Canada’s route 20 is about as bad as the worst interstate highway in the U.S. They are making an effort to improve it with several stretches under construction and repair; other stretches give you a free roller-coaster ride.

It’s about 150 miles from Montreal to Quebec City and it’s a very pretty drive through the countryside. Everything is lush and green, thanks to all the rain they’ve had. We stopped at a couple of rest stops for a break for us and a walk for Foxy. We’ve noticed the rest areas along here have attended concession stands where you can purchase drinks, ice cream and other snacks.

We reached the campground right about lunch time. We got settled in, had lunch, and took Foxy for a walk; there doesn’t appear to be a camp dog here but she did meet a 4-month old fur ball named Molly, whose owners are from Tennessee.

We went to Boston Pizza for dinner. We ate at one in Calgary the year we went to Alaska and the food is very good, not just pizza…lots of variety on the menu including BBQ ribs. After dinner, we stopped at Tim Horton’s for muffins for breakfast. Tim Horton’s is Canada’s Dunkin Donuts and they have the best blueberry muffins.

Weather permitting, we might go sightsee the river road tomorrow.
