On Wednesday morning we headed north through St. Augustine on our way to an appointment with the Cummins shop in Jacksonville for scheduled maintenance on the See Ya. We are familiar with St. Augustine having visited there four years ago.
As we drove through St. Augustine on A1A we passed Fort Matanzas, a Spanish-built fort for defense against the British. As we exited the town we drove over an under-construction draw bridge that caught our attention because of its unusual design.
We spent the night at the Cummins shop where they provide hookups for overnight stays. On Thursday morning they lubed and oiled the See Ya and made us aware of a leak in the steering box that would require warranty service by a Freightliner dealer. So we made am appointment with Tom Nehl Freightliner in Lake City where we had had work done previously. We headed to the Oaks and Pines Campground north of Lake City for our Friday morning appointment at Tom Nehl.
While Tom Nehl worked on the See Ya, we headed east of Lake City into Osceola National Forest and stopped at the Olustee Battlefield Memorial near Ocean Pond. We hiked through the pines on a trail with lots of fern undergrowth. It was a pleasant walk with nice scenery in an open forest environment.
Ocean Pond was also scenic with quiet waters and lots of green trees. We visited the museum at the battlefield where a Civil War battle was fought and won by the Confederate army forstalling a Union march northward into Georgia.
While at the memorial we got a call from Tom Nehl informing us that the steering box would need to be replaced and that the part would not be in until Monday morning. So, it was back to Oaks and Pines for the weekend.
Monday went well with the See Ya completed by early afternoon after we spent the morning doing some more Osceola National Forest hiking. We headed west for a couple of hours and spent the night in Quincy for our last night of five months in Florida.
Today we will head for Texas.
