Casper was all about family. Jeanne and Bob came to visit us the first day and we went back to their house the next morning. Bob still has to go to that awful four letter word that spells work but we had a nice time with Jeanne. I love it when Bill can be with his family. We brought Jeanne back to our place and I cooked up a nice dinner. Bob joined us after work and we had just a great time talking and reminiscing. It was a very special evening. All too soon we said our good-byes again and headed north on the interstate.
Usually we take the scenic highways but this trip we decided to stick to the main roads until we get the feel of our new house a little more. I remember a couple of years ago when we took the scenic route through Thermopolis and soaked in the hot springs and it was awesome; but when we left there we had to drive across the Big Horn Mountains and it was a long pull. We decided to skip that this time. The route from Casper along I-25 is a beautiful one. It wasn’t long before we came to the snow capped Big Horn Mountains to the west and wonderful rolling farmland to the east. This area is all about sheep, horses, cows, pronghorn antelopes and once in awhile you saw a deer or elk. I’m sure there are a lot more wild life out there but not what we could see from the highway. It was very relaxing and a beautiful drive.
We had planned on going all the way to Billings, MT. but when we got to Sheridan we remembered another time that we had stopped here but not seen the town. It is noted as the #1 Cowboy Town in the West and my cowboy wanted to check it out. We checked into Peter D’s Good Sam Park. We remembered the sites were long enough but had forgotten how close we are to the neighbors. Oh well, not to worry, it’ll be just fine for the night.
We had a wonderful time visiting Sheridan. Our lunch spot of the day had the best ribs I have ever tasted. Main Street was as old fashioned as you could possibly imagine and we walked up one side and down the other. We visited museums that we didn’t even know existed and had a wonderful day. Everyone was so nice to us and took the time to talk to us and show us so many details. I never knew so much work went into making a saddle or even a belt or purse.
The Sheridan Inn was home to Buffalo Bill Cody at one time and it just missed the wrecking ball a few years back when the heir of Double Tree bought it and decided to renovate it. It is in the process but the bar and restaurant are the only ones open now. We took a tour through it. Awesome………We’re glad we stopped in Sheridan but can hardly wait to get to Billings tomorrow to see that new little g-grandson and of course his parents….. later……….
