We weren't in any hurry to leave Plattekill because we only had a 140-mile drive and the campground in Lake George told us we couldn't check in until 2:00 p.m. This always baffles me; checkout is at noon but we can't check in until 2; it's not like they have to clean rooms. Anyway, Joe helped another RV'er get his 42 ft. motorhome hooked to is nice shiny trailer, which made him about 70 ft. going down the highway. His wife was really grateful because their set-up didn't allow for any tolerance and he had to back at an angle.
We hooked up and hit the NY Thruway around 10:30 a.m. We donated $12.15 in tolls and cruised along leisurely, taking a couple of breaks. Traffic was light through Albany and soon we were on the Northway, which is a free highway. We stopped for lunch at McDonalds at one of the rest areas. Foxy loves this because she gets Chicken McNuggets.
We noticed that many towns here in the Hudson Valley end with 'kill' in their names (example, Plattekill, Fishkill, etc.). Well, we learned the reason for this is the region was settled by the Dutch and 'kill' referred to the river........not the ending of life. Attempts to change the names of some of these 'kill' towns have failed miserably.
We arrived at our home for the next week at Lake George RV Park. We got settled and had a relaxing afternoon. We went to a local Italian restaurant, Frank's, for dinner and the food was excellent.
We're planning a down day tomorrow as the weather forecast is for very heavy rain.
