9/24

Backtracking on US26, then heading south on I-25, we traveled 120 miles to the Terry Bison Ranch and RV Park in Cheyenne, Wyoming. In Cheyenne we received an excellent tour of the State Capital building which was built in 1886. This building is one of only 14 capital buildings that have a real gold-leaf dome. It has been gilded (re-leafed) seven times – they were just competing the seventh time during our visit. We also visited the Governor’s home. We received a tour by the Governor’s Residence’s Manager who showed us the visitor’s quarters, the meeting room and the property. Next we took a self guided tour of the old governor’s mansion which was built in 1904 and used until 1976.
