We traveled about 140 miles from Hopewell Cape to Prince Edward Island today, just ahead of Tropical Storm Beryl for the most part. For the first time since we left Maine our route took us be a large complex of big box stores, including a large grocery. Just in time too as the fridge was getting pretty bare. Naturally one of Beryl's leading rain bands just happened to be there at the same time. The route also happened to have a couple of tricky turns which gave us the opportunity for a short scenic side trip.

This trip took us across the long bridge (about 8 miles) from New Brunswick to PEI. The welcome center at PEI is a large complex with restaurants, and also with numerous shops providing Sally and Carlene the opportunity for some retail therapy. We passed Cavendish Farms and Processing Plants enroute to Cavendish. They ship 90% of their product - french fries - to Wendys and Burgler King. We arrived at our campground just ahead of Beryl and were almost set up before Beryls rains arrived. From the radar on TV we seemed to be just at the edge of the heavy rain zone. Predictions were for from 40-60 millimeters, which the forecasters say is a months normal rain. Tomorrow a cold front is due to bring more. Fortunately, the accompanying wind was well below damage levels here. I put the big awning out, with good tiedowns, and it was never threatened.

Our Happy Hour was held under umbrella's this afternoon. We celebrated Jim's 60th birthday as the rain poured off the umbrellas and awnings. It will be a memorable birthday.

The Park had pie ala-mode for a good price so we took advantage of that instead of supper. Great Strawberry/Rubarb pie! And still warm. It's a rainy night with just local TV tonight as there is apparently enough of Beryl between us and Direct TV's satellite to make the signal too intermittent to watch.
