Thanksgiving at the Walkers, Carolina Beach, North Carolina

11/9 - 11/23

It took us four days to travel the 658 miles to Carolina Beach, North Carolina. Along the way we spent the nights at two Wal-Mart parking lots and a COE boat launch.

In Carolina Beach we stayed in the driveway of our friends' Andy and Dorothy Walker (where they provided full hook-ups - what a deal). While we were visiting the Walkers:

>Andy took us for rides along the beach in his dune buggy. Check out our web site for a picture of Joan drinking while driving.

>We went to the North Carolina Aquarium. Considering the "out of the way" location for this aquarium it has a very impressive display of fish and fish habitat.

>We took a tour of the earthen fortifications of Fort Fisher which was used to defend the Cape Fear River (access to Wilmington) during the Civil War.

>Dorothy gave Ken a buzz haircut (a number two attachment on the razor). This is the first time he has not had hair since Navy boot camp. He would not let her touch his beard though.

>Ken and Andy helped build a pirate ship float for the local Christmas parade.

>We had an excellent Thanksgiving dinner with Andy, Dorothy and 11 more of their friends and relatives. We even left with left-overs.
