The El Refugio Campground is located on the property of the Tlaquepaque Hotel just south of the town square in the small community of lo de Marcos. It was a little tight getting down the mainstreet and making the turn into the campground, but it was well worth it. The campground is gorgeous with lots of flowers and other vegetation.

(OK it only shows The Discovery Channel during the day and Fox News at night)
There is a short path that leads from the campground to the beach. It is about a 3/4 mile stretch of sand between rocky outcroppings that attracts pretty good action on the weekends.

The day after we arrived we drove south on slow and winding route 200 to Bucerias where the road widens into a four-lane highway into Puerto Vallarta. Jeff arrived at the airport and we started back toward lo de Marcos. He couldn't wait that long though, so we stopped in Bucerias and walked on the beach there that overlooks the large Bahia de Banderas where Puerto Vallarta is located.

As some of you know, Jeff spent a full year living in Puerto Escondido (about 800 miles further southeast from here) and he loves the tropical climate. It wasn't long before he had acquired a variety of tropical fruits and vegetables for one of his drink concoctions.

There are several decent restaurants here, but we have found one that is directly on the beach.

(The only thing that would make it better would be a switch from Fox to CNN)
