Exiting to the beach

Our first destination was Bachas Beach on the north coast of Santa Cruz Island, named by locals for WWII barges that ran aground on the beach. The fine coralline sand is a nesting spot for Pacific Green Sea Turtles and the nearby lagoons host flamingos and wading birds. We had a snorkel from the beach option. Not a lot of marine animals, but a good opportunity to practice with the underwater cameras.

Our afternoon destination was Bartolome Island and a visit to the top of a volcano cone. Bartolome was largely volcanic residue and little plant life. The second landing gave us an opportunity to see the Galapagos Penguins and a good snorkel beach with lots of marine live, including a small white tip shark.
