Another 122 miles brought us to Sumter Oaks Campground in Bushnell, Florida. This is one of our Escapees Club Parks so the place is loaded with friendly people. We usually head for one of these parks to share the holidays with other people who are on the road.
They have very good jam sessions at this park with many musicians. The jam sessions last for two hours and each musician gets two turns to perform. Lucy and Tom sang and played at one of the jam sessions. We met this couple camping on the desert in both Arizona and California. We met Pat and Bob (from Michigan) while we were at the park. Pat is a hammered dulcimer player and Ken enjoyed jamming with her.
Joan must have lost ten pounds while we were here. Every day she exercised with the crowd - both on land and in the pool. She also volunteered her time to help clean up while Ken kept busy catching up on his reading.
On Mondays there is a huge flea market in Webster, about eight miles from the campground. We were there for a couple of hours and saw maybe a third of the booths. We did come home with some fruit and vegetables. Speaking of fruit, the strawberries are starting to arrive from Plant City, Florida. These strawberries are wonderful. One of the advantages of traveling is that occasionally we are in a location when a local fruit or vegetable is in season. This is especially true of the strawberries from the Plant City area of Florida - so sweet and delicious. Another area we like is Washington during the cherry season. Ken really loves their delicious Rainier cherries.
On Christmas we shared a ham dinner with over 110 people. The campground provided the ham and the folks at each table supplied the side dishes and desserts.
