The next stop was the Cottonwood Campground in Canyon de Chelly National Monument. It was a 96 mile drive to the monument, which is located on an Indian reservation near Chinle, Arizona (US191, IR7). Canyon de Chelly is comprised of two large canyons where a great number of ancient Indian pueblos were located. There are both a North and South Rim Drive that provide numerous overviews of the old ruins.
