Joe was up early, as usual, and off walking with Foxy. My first lucid moment was the realization the wind was blowing and the gusts were rocking the motorhome. Great, terrific for a driving day. Said last goodbye to Karen and we pointed the motorhome west. Our route took us out through Geary, Watonga and Woodward before heading north into Kansas.
This is a nice ride through the golden wheat fields of Western Oklahoma. We ran into a little road construction at Seiling but nothing really bad and we had no delay.
We stopped at McDonald's in Woodward for lunch. I think we were both having grease cravings; too much healthy foods on our trip to Ireland. Foxy loves chicken mcnuggets so I got a small order of those for her.
We're sure there's a rule in RV'ing. There are head winds and side winds; but, there's no such thing as a tail wind. We traveled about 255 miles and got 6.4 miles/gallon. It seems no matter which direction we turned, we were driving into the wind.
At Ft. Supply, the wind turbines were getting quite the workout; winds must have been gusting to 30-35 mph.
We crossed the state line into Kansas and drove through a remote area that reminded us of the Canadian Yukon...no phone towers, no phone poles, no trees, just peaceful, rolling grasslands.
We fueled up at Flying J in Dodge City (diesel was $4.63/gl) and called it at day at Gunsmoke Trav-L-Park. The winds have subsided some but the temperature is in the mid 90's. We're looking forward to cooler weather in Colorado.
