To North Sidney, NS - A whopping 32 miles - August 5, 2006
No big rush today due to the short distance, but most got out by 9 am to be able to make the Sidney Farmers Market. A straight drive today. No turns or highway changes.
The Sidney Farmers Market is much different from what we saw at Annapolis Royal, and disappointing as we expected to see lots of produce, fruit, and baked goods. Mostly it was a craft market. It was held in the Cruise Ship terminal on the waterfront. No ships in town today so it was mostly local customers. The most interesting to me was the 55 foot high, 8 ton, fiddle (known locally as "the big fiddle") in front of the terminal. It was commissioned by the community fathers to celebrate the rennassiance of the fiddle in celebration of Scottish traditions. Couldn't get any further info on it as no one was around to man booths and no brochures were available.
Our tour is a combination of two tours offered by Adventure. The 1st ends tomorrow, and the second starts. We will lose two couples who won't participate in the 2nd. We pick up 5 couples who will join for Newfoundland and Labador.
Supper tonight was a pot luck, with introduction of our new companions in adventure. A briefing on our upcoming 14 hour ferry trip on Monday followed the pot luck. Another adventure - to be described later.
