Tiny Town on the Road

Four days ago we started southbound toward the Puerto Vallarta area. First we said adios to the Huatabampito Campground including our waiter, Daniel,

and our hosts including Teresa,

the daughter who worked every day in the office.

Our first day trip was short as we back tracked to Los Mochis, near where we had landed on the ferry three weeks earlier. On the second day we started to drop big bucks paying tolls on the roadway. Although typically they were good roads,

we dropped well over $100 for tolls during this drive. We stopped for the night abut 50 miles north of Mazatlan at a new campground near the water.

Day three began the most interesting part of our trip. After spending big bucks for the toll road, we left route 15D and headed toward the small town of San Blas on an unamed road that is a much-used RV shortcut toward Puerto Vallarta. This road was very narrow and lined by brush and trees that constantly threatened to scratch the See Ya.

We made it to a campground called Play Amor, about 10 miles south of San Blas, where we spent the night again on the waterfront.

Our last day was again a short one as we had only about 60 fun-filled miles to go. We set out on the short cut road again through country side that had turned from the desert to the north into a tropical landscape.

To add to the challenge the road wove through a few small towns with narrow streets with vehicles parked on them.

Our destination town was lo de Marcos and the campground at the Tlaquepaque Hotel. The final challenge was to navigate the narrow main street of the town and the tight turn into the campground. The good news is we made it and are now in one of the nicest campgrounds we have seen in our travels. That was a real surprise! We will pick Jeff up at the airport tomorrow. We'll be here for two weeks before starting northward.
