Arnie Loves the Snow!

After a nice week in Arco, on Tuesday we drove to Ketchum, ID in Sun Valley where we plan to spend a week at The Meadows RV Park. We were surprised, after a very quiet route 20, to find a good deal of traffic on Idaho 75 heading north through Bellevue, Hailey, and Ketchum. Sun Valley adjoins Ketchum to the east.

Today was a great day for a hike! So, we headed over to the ranger station in Sun Valley and asked for an "easy" trail for a day hike. The volunteer ranger recommended a hike about 20 miles north of Ketchum near Galena Summit. So we jumped in the car and headed the wrong way. Instead of going north on route 75, we went east onto a dirt road headed into the mountains. It afforded us a great view of the valley.

We came back down into Ketchum and headed north for about 25 miles to the Titus Lake Trailhead. The trailhead was a neat spot.

As we started up the trail it quickly became obvious that this was going to be a more difficult hike than advertised. The reason was that there were numerous snow drifts along the length of the trail. Although they made for a tough hike, Arnie thought the snow drifts were just great!

After nearly a full hour of hiking, my GPS said that we had only gone about a mile. It was at this point that we found a great spot for lunch.

We ran into a hiking couple from Oregon who stopped at the same spot. All four of us decided that we had gone far enough and returned to the trailhead after lunch and drove back to the campground.
