We are moving our annual visit to the Dallas area to November from April because the weather is awful in April and nice in November. On our way into town from Texarkana we stopped in Rowlett to the east of Dallas for a visit with Sue's sister, Mary, her husband, Buddy and their daughter, Melissa. Then we headed across town to the Destiny RV Resort south of Denton.
A new twist to our visit this year is that our son, Jeff, is now enrolled in the music program at North Texas University in Denton. So we had numerous opportunities to visit with him throughout the month including one performance of the Jazz Band of which he is a member.
Between doctor visits and visits with friends I had the opportunity to do a couple of long runs at one of my favorite spots, White Rock Lake. The lake is circumscribed by a 9 mile long bike path that, in addition to the lake view, passes several beautiful homes, has a great view of downtown Dallas, and several tree covered areas. It makes for a fun run.
Unfortunately, we didn't see everyone that we would have liked to see on this trip, but did have an opportunity to visit with many. Sue had an opportunity to visit with her Weightwatcher friends, her book club, and her friend Peggy from Irving. I had an opportunity to lunch with Gary Schepf and Ann Shipman, two valuable members of the team at The Academy who are still there.
We spent a great evening of stimulating conversation with Shanna and Angelo Nasche. We always enjoy these visits with my former Associates colleague and her husband.
Although we missed them last time, Sissi and Truman Warren came by the See Ya for a visit and a trip into Denton for brunch at Hannah's (we highly recommend Hannah's). It was good to catch up with the Warrens. Sissi is still at The Academy, but is approaching retirement.
Arnie had a chance to visit a couple of times with his buddies Bello and Rossi while Sue and I visited with their owner, Denise Dehart.
Of course, while in this area, we always spend as much time as we can with Lisa, George and Chase Karr. Our visits culminated this year with a get together at the Hoods for Thanksgiving. I'll make that get together the subject of a separate entry.
