Saint John, NB to Bangor, ME - 172 miles - August 30, 2006

All good things must end. Today was best described as loose. The tour log book merely goes to a Truck Stop in Bangor and ends. It's mostly a free-for-all day. Some chose to stay in St. John for a few more days. Others, who joined in mid-tour, just discovered they had no campground for tonight. If there was a travel meeting I missed it. Some ad-hoc info was floating around; semi-accurate.

The Wagonmaster and Tailgunner left in the first wave and others trickled out. The border crossing was uneventful, although a backup of about 20 minutes existed in the downtown streets of Saint Stephen. It's a poor setup for a border crossing. I presume the local businesses like the congestion which may cause an occasional traveler to stop and buy something, and that the local citizens have accepted the situation.

Several of us spent the night in an RV park in Bangor for a final social hour. Others began the journey homeward, and some went directly to Bar Harbor, ME. Traveling over the Labor Day weekend is difficult in the NE as the limited campgrounds are full, and begin closing thereafter. We're resting up in Bar Harbor, along with several other tour couples, before "parking home somewhere else".
