We considered taking the ferry to New York but decided against it; it’s a pretty pricey proposition to put a 60-ft rig on a ferry and it’s a short enough trip by road. So, Joe disconnected everything, in the rain, and we hit the road early about 8:30 a.m.
We decided to head north on Route 2 through the Champlain Islands. It’s a beautiful drive but the beauty was obscured some by the rain. Then we hit the Northway, aka I-87 south in New York to Lake George.
The Northway runs through Adirondack Park and the foliage was spectacular; at its peak or very close. New York has a great variety of trees producing some beautiful reds, yellows and oranges with lots of green mixed in. It rained almost constantly and, in places, the wind was very strong and the leaves were blowing around like in a cyclone.
We arrived at the RV Park and felt really lucky we got a site with a satellite view. There are lots of pine trees and the wind has blown the pine needles off so they form a carpet; we couldn’t see the road bed through the park because it was coated with leaves and pine needles. However, we made it and we’re settled for three nights. We went to our favorite pizza joint for supper, Frank’s; the pizza was really good again…nothing like good old New York style pizza served piping hot on a cold night.
