Streets of Sante Fe- the Basilica in the background

Last one before my battery went dead

We spend the day in Old Town Santa Fe yesterday. Oh how I love that place. This time Bill drove in our truck and our first stop was at one of our favorite places on the way. When Jan asked me what kind of place Jackalopes was, I told her it was a tourist trap junk store so she was anxious to see it. I was a little disappointed this time as there seemed to be more junk than the last time and less of the good stuff. They have added lots of stuff from Asia and Africa and that just doesn’t seem right here in the Southwest. Never the less, we spent at least an hour looking at everything.

We made our way to the Plaza and parked right behind the beautiful Basilica …. Unfortunately, the Church is undergoing a massive renovation and it was completely covered. I snapped a couple of pictures as we were walking to the Plaza and all of a sudden my battery went dead. OH NO. NOT NOW. Here we are at one of the neatest places in the USA and I can’t use my camera. It is not that I forgot to change the battery because I just did that before we went to Taos. It’s just that I forgot how many pictures I took when we were in Taos. The forty some that I put up were just a fraction of the ones I took. Well, not to worry, we will be going back there today to see some of the many things we missed yesterday.

We found a nice little spot for lunch where I had a Tostada Salad with salmon. Boy was that good. The salmon was delicious. Jan had the same while the guys chose something else. Bill had his old stand-by, a hamburger, which he could only finish half of. What a big burger.

We went into a few shops and then came home but soon were ready to go out again. This time we were going to a grocery store and Jan came along while Jeff stayed back with the dogs. On the way to the store Jan noticed a yarn shop listed in her GPS so we asked Bill if we could stop there first. Bless his heart, he drove us all the way back downtown while we looked for that shop. We never did find it but a lady in one of the shops told us of a couple others not too far away so since we were in a shopping center with a big Albertsons, we went inside and got the few things we needed and then went searching for the yarn shop. We finally found one and it was almost the same place we had parked in the morning right near the Basilica…. Bill stayed in the truck while Jan and I went inside for a few minutes. Yah right. Nobody can go into a yarn shop or a quilt shop and come out in a few minutes… Thankfully, Bill kept himself busy by making phone calls to the family. In the mean time, we found some beautiful yarn that both Jan and I loved. One in particular was a ribbon yarn in beautiful southwestern colors of turquoise, peaches and sands. Jan picked out a pattern for a vest that this will be beautiful in and bought the yarn. When we go back today, I may just have to buy some myself.

It was late when we got back home so we all had a light supper and then we went over to Jan and Jeff’s for the evening and played games. I was the big winner and came home a couple of $ ahead. Now they tell me that the winner has to buy dinner tonight. Looks like McDonalds to me. LOL

We went by the San Miguel Mission yesterday. This is the oldest church in the USA and since I couldn’t use my camera I will go back there today and get some pictures. It is really something to see.

Later……………..
