Here we go again and again travel blog

Our stay in Amarillo is coming to an end. It has had it’s good and bad times. The bad time has been the weather. We have endured winds of 70 mph and temps in the very low 40’s. There hasn’t been rain here for six months until we arrived and guess what? Yesterday it rained almost all day. Wouldn’t you think that the wind would shut off in the rain? Nope. The good thing is that we went to Palo Duro on the right day. If we had waited it would not have been very nice. We were also able to get a ton of things done that we wanted to do in our new house and that was our main purpose for the long stay. One thing we had hoped to do was clean off all the red dust that stuck to our RV during the winds but we never did get enough good weather to do that.Another bad thing is that I came down with a heck of a cold. I blame it all on the rain and cold wind but several of our friends had this while we were still in Florida so maybe it was bound to happen.

GOOD thing…… I had planned on cooking a nice Easter dinner but every store we tried had ham’s that were 12# or more. Now how does two people use up 12# of ham? I have tried freezing leftovers but they just last so long so we did what most people did in Amarillo; We went out to eat.Now anyone that has ever been near Amarillo has heard about the Big Texan. It is a Steak house that offers a free 72oz Steak if you can eat it and all the trimmings in one hour. We wanted to watch someone try this as they put them in a special place with a big stopwatch running from the minute it is served but being Easter, no one was taking them up on the offer. If you can't finish, the cost is $72.00 Sounds fair to me. Today was one of the three special buffets they serve. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter are the only time the buffet is open and it was wonderful. The buffet had a salad and fruit bar, many vegetables and your choice of prime rib, steak, Cajon turkey and ham. I tried the turkey and ham but the turkey was too spicy for me so I went back for more ham. It was great. Bill had the prime rib and ham and went back for seconds of both. Dessert was included with your choice of cheesecake or carrot cake. There were several toppings to go on the cheese cake. What could we do? I had the cherry cheesecake and Bill chose the carrot. I thought we would share but he ate all his before I had a chance…. The price for this five course dinner?…. $9.95 ea. Wow, it was soooooo good. After all the weeks I spent at Weight Watchers in Florida, I hope I didn’t blow it in just one day. Sorry, I forgot to take the camera and my cell phone pics are awful.

Tomorrow we leave for Santa Fe and meet up with our friends Jan and Jeff that we were in Newfoundland with last summer. Can’t wait……….Later…………..
